South African-based Major 1 Records have announced the signing of gospel musician George Mkandawire to their stable.

The announcement, which was made on Thursday, says Major 1 Records will be responsible for the production, marketing and distribution of Mkandawire’s music.

Following the signing, Mkandawire is set to work on a new 10-track album to hit the market in June.

The label has since said Mkandawire’s first single is expected in the last week of May.

President of Major 1 Records Prophet Bushiri said: “George Mkandawire is one of the most sought out gospel voices of our times and bringing into Major 1 Records is a great stride in the Great Commission which our Lord Jesus Christ left us with.”

Bushiri added that the strategic ministerial goal for the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) Church in 2019 is to Double The Numbers.

“Last year, we won over 2 million souls for Jesus. This year, we aim to double what we achieved last year.”

“One of the way we want to achieve that is ministering and evangelizing through music. That is why, through Major 1 Records, we are incorporating several musicians in our fold,” said Prophet Bushiri.

On his part, Mkandawire said he was thrilled to be joining the stable.

“I cannot dump the talent that God gave me. I love singing. I’m glad that Major 1 has signed me for his recording studios in South Africa and my singing career will never be the same again.

It’s just that things have changed now, music is not the same and so you have to fit into the equation and more importantly appeal to both the old and current generation,” Mkandawire said.Major 1 Records is an arm of Prophet Shepherd Bushiri Ministries (PSBM) which focuses on ministering through music.

It has its own studios and it provides sponsorship and support to youths who have a calling to minister through music.

Some of the renowned artists under Major 1 Records include: Swazi, Tshepo Mngoma and Keke from South Africa; Gregory Mulema, Onesimus, Gwamba, Wendy Harawa, Rhema, Rebirth and Pastor Mlaka Maliro from Malawi; Praise Peterson from Zimbabwe; Nimix from Nigeria; and Innocent from Zambia to mention just a few.
