One of the top-notch hotels in Lilongwe, Malawi Latitude 13 will this weekend host a speed dating night targeting the singles community.
The speed dating night is being replicated after its huge success by the hotel’s sister company Latitude 15 based in Lusaka, Zambia.
Athina Giannaki, marketing manager for Latitude Hotels said people are always looking for new ‘unusal’ things to try out and they believe this is why they will be open to the speed dating concept.
Giannaki said they have received an overwhelming response since the night they put up the post of speed dating on their social media platforms showing there is a high demand.
She said this will probably be the first time for such an event to take place in Malawi saying she has not seen or heard of it being done before.
The manager said so far they are nearly full in regards to registration of participants adding that they are looking forward to a few men that are ‘shy’ who might end up rocking the night.
She explained that each participant will be given five minutes to engage in a conversation before they move on to the next person.
“It takes around five minutes to know if you are interested in someone. They [participants] will have dated everyone, if you think about it like that. The chances of them vibing with someone though? That’s up to them,” Giannaki said.
Speaking on the reason why they decided to charge K5,000 as entry fee into the speed dating she explained they wanted to limit the number of people and that the fee shows commitment.
“We only have 20 to 30 spaces for each of the genders and this fee is also inclusive of a glass of wine which is valued at about the same amount,” she explained.
