Zathu Band grand competition winner in Dedza gets her wish


Winner of the Zathu Band Season 5 grand competition got her wish over the weekend  when the band showed up at her school, Mpalare Community Day Secondary School in Dedza to celebrate.

Violet Phiri was in awe as she could not believe the Band had honoured its promise and came through to perform for her in front of her friends.

The 17 year old interacted with members of the Zathu Band and Zathu Pa Wailesi’s radio presenters, C-Zee and DJ Goxy.

Speaking when she accepted the news of her being winner of the Season 5 grand competition Phiri said it was the best news she has received this year.

"I can't believe that Zathu Band is here at my school to perform because of me," Violet said.


The competition ran for nine weeks on the popular youth radio show and attracted more than 5649 entries from young people across the country. 60 young people across Malawi, won Zathu branded merchandise including T-Shirts, bandanas and wristbands.

The questions for the grand competition were based around story lines from Zathu drama which listeners were encouraged to give their ideas and opinions on the big moments from Season 5, including T-Reel’s departure and Chikondi’s relationship dilemma.

Zathu Pa Wailesi radio show continues to inspire the youth of Malawi with real life stories, high drama and the best music.

The radio show is currently airing repeat episodes of Season 5.
