Mzuzu Fashion Week goes digital


Mzuzu Fashion Week (MzFW) returns for its sixth edition this October digitally.

The journey for the sixth year of MzFw dubbed the ‘Rebirth’ begins with a different approach. This will include series of talks and a fashion Cocktail with leaders and influencers in the fashion industry that will utilise various digital platforms.

Zikani Nyirenda, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of the MzFW said the ‘Rebirth’ will experience a change in venue too for the physical events as they feel it is now time to spout and allow physical presence across the country.

This year’s event will take place on the last week of October beginning Monday 25th to Saturday 31st of October on which the Fashion Cocktail ill take place at the Malvile Boutique Hotel in Lilongwe.

Nyirenda said the 2020 MzFW will have a couple of pre and post event talks virtually to discuss Malawi Fashion, challenges faced especially with the global COVID-19 pandemic and what better ways to move forward in a bid to put Malawi fashion on the map.


“MzFW week has become more than a platform for local designers to promote their products, the event hopes to inspire a new generation of fashion designers and entrepreneurs.

“These individuals could then use the skills to create jobs as well as products that may be exported, thereby generating revenue for the nation,” Nyirenda said.

The event continues to raise the standards of quality in Malawi’s fashion industry. It promises to also serve as a place where stakeholders can network and learn for one another.

MzFW was established by Kwanza and Zik Garvey and has become a must-attend award winning fashion event in Malawi for designers, models and other fashion-industry professional nationally and internationally to showcase their work and encourage the growth of fashion industry in the Southern African country.
