Sulom Exco meets Saturday

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) officials are set to meet this Saturday to discuss the return of their competition following Football Association of Malawi’s (FAM) meeting with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture on the same.

FAM presented a roadmap to the Ministry to ensure safe return of the sport during their meeting on Monday.

Sulom president, Tiya Somba Banda, who is also FAM’s executive member, said on Wednesday that they needed to meet and discuss the recommendations by FAM so that they also plan on how to restart the games.

“There is a proposal to hike charges and if the decision is made, we need to adopt that because we need consistency with what FAM decides because we administer the games on their behalf. Another agenda item is about the Annual General meeting that we need to have so that we can discuss with the teams on the return of the game,” he said.

Somba also urged teams to wait for recommendation of the Ministry of Health before they resume play.

"Teams have to be safe because we do not want them to endanger themselves and other teams. The issue is that if a team has players who test positive to coronavirus [COVID-19] it would be difficult to kickoff the league. We cannot kickoff without the other team," he added.

This comes amid reports that some teams are planning to start light training ahead of the new season.

Sulom is yet to have the general meeting with teams to do a postmortem of last season, and map way forward in the new season.
