More hunt for points in TNM Super League

TNM Super League

The battle for the TNM Super League top spot continues this weekend as leaders, Blue Eagles and second-placed Nyasa Big Bullets have tasks to outsmart or gift each other the opportunity.

Straight from their 2-1 win against Sable Farming in Blantyre, the Eagles, with their 22 points, return home to host Wakawaka Tigers.

It promises to be a highly-contested match considering the improved form of Tigers this season.

However, the Malawi Police side has to keep in mind two or things, which include the top form of their closest rivals, Bullets, who are hardly dropping points in their assignments as they eye the league defense.

They should also put in their mind that the Inspector General of Police, Peter Kainja promised to grace the match, and therefore cannot afford to disgrace their boss with a loss.

According to the team's coach, Eliah Kananji, they are mindful of the position they occupy and that most teams are eyeing the spot, and therefore there is need to up their game to protect the territory.

"Most teams want our position. We have therefore tightened up the bolts to ensure we secure the place. Tigers is a good side, we have played them several times and they always give us trouble. But otherwise we have prepared well, all the players are ok good shape and ready to rumble," Kananji said.

On the other hand, Bullets, two points shy of Eagles, are in the Central Region to face another good side, Civo Service United.

Bullets come from a 4-1 demolition of debutants Rumphi United, while Civo were held to a goalless draw by Kamuzu Barracks.

Bullets assistant coach, Peter Mponda said all is set for the match, with no pressure.

"I believe we have done everything that is required. We are going to Lilongwe with an aim of collecting three points. However, we are not giving these players pressure to win. As you know, this is a new team that is being built. Most of the players have just been promoted from the reserve side, so we want them to play their football and produce results, not because of pressure," Mponda said.

Tigers will start with TN Stars at Kasungu Stadium on Saturday before facing Eagles on Sunday.

Same day, Silver Strikers will host Ekwendeni Hammers.

Ok Sunday, Rumphi United welcomes fellow debutants, Sable Farming, while Mighty Wanderers will be in action against Dedza Dynamos at Kamuzu Stadium.

Kamuzu Barracks will host Ekwendeni at Civo on Sunday, while Moyale entertain Karonga United at Mzuzu Stadium same day.
