Chakwera trusts experience in first govt appointments

Malawi's President Lazarus Chakwera has made his first appointment by among others announcing four names that will form part of his new cabinet.

Dr. Chakwera has appointed his Vice President  Dr. Saulos Chilima as Minister Responsible for Economic Planning and Development and Public Sector Reforms.

The public purse has been entrusted to retired NICO group CEO, Felix Mlusu, 69.

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) lead counsel in the May Presidential election case, Modecai Msiska, SC has been rewarded with the position of Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs and the MCP Director of Youth, Richard Chimwendo Banda is the Minister of Homeland Security.

Other appointments include that of Chikosa Silungwe, who was the UTM lead counsel in the disputed May 21 presidential case to be the Attorney General. 

Zangazanga Chikhosi is Chief Secretary to Government replacing Lloyd Muhara. Chikhosi will be deputised by Janet Banda, SC and Chief of Staff Residences is Prince Kapondamgaga who was CEO for Farmers Union.
The appointed ministers are scheduled to be sworn in later today.
