COVID-19 forces Parliament building closure

Speaker of the National Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara

The National Assembly building is to scale down its operations and is expected to close for 14 days from Thursday 16th July, following recorded confirmed cases of Coronavirus among legislators and  its members of staff.

According to a statement signed by Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani-Hara, this brought an urgent requirement to review the operations of the house in order to safeguard lives of its staff and parliamentarians.

“During this period, in line with the Parliament of Malawi COVID-19 Preventive measures, the Parliament Building will be comprehensively disinfected and closed to all stakeholders to prevent the further spread of the virus," read the statement.
