Chakwera maintains stance on AIP beneficiaries

President Lazarus Chakwera has maintained that no single household would lose out from benefitting from the ambitious Agriculture input programme (AIP) being implemented by his administration.

Director of Communications Sean Kampondeni disclosed during the state house brief there has been positive response from fertilizer suppliers as witnessed in reduced prices of the commodity.

During the interface, he reiterated the President’s commitment to fighting for the welfare of the farmers as discussions with concerned stakeholders continue.

“The President will keep his word on reduced fertilizer prices to guarantee farmers affordable fertilizer prices”

He further stated that Minister of Agriculture Lobin Lowe and the President have not contradicted each other on the number of beneficiaries for the programme on policy implementation.

Kampondeni also clarified that Chakwera’s recent nsima remarks are not against maize production per se but rather encouraging diversification of food Malawians eat.

The public have raised concerns over rising fertilizer prices and expects direction from the Presidency especially as farmers start preparing their land in readiness of the rainy season.
