The Office of the Vice President of Malawi has vehemently refuted rumours that Saulos Chilima has contracted the novel coronavirus disease and is unwell.
Speaking to the media, the Vice President's spokesperson Pilirani Phiri said Chilima is fine.
Phiri disclosed that Chilima has been handling government business and that he was in office on Tuesday.
The rumour mill claimed that the Vice President was to be flown to South Africa for medical treatment.
This came as two cabinet ministers-Minister of Transport and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) vice president Sidik Mia and Minister of Local Government Lingson Belekenyama succumbed to the pandemic on Tuesday.
In an address President Lazarus Chakwera idirected Chilima to lead committee meetings on enforcement of measures to curb the further spread of the virus.
Phiri said Chilima, who is know for his vigorous work ethic took the directive head on and has already taken up the task.
"He has already taken up the directive with the ministerial task-team to review COVID-19 guidelines in order to respond effectively to the pandemic," Phiri said.
