Over 1,500 Malawians return home from SA

The Mwanza Border Post is this expected to welcome the 30th cohort of self-repatriated Malawians from South Africa who in total are adding up to 1,539.

The border’s spokesperson, Pasqually Zulu has told us that they are being ferried in 22 buses caccrying 401 minors, 582 males and 556 females.

He has also revealed that one of the 22 buses is carrying 62 Malawians who were being held at Lindela Holding Facility in South Africa for violating immigration laws.

Upon their arrival, Zulu said the returnees will undergo COVID-19 test, security checks and travelling documents verification processes.

The first cohort of self-repatriated Malawians arrived in the country on May 23, 2020 and thus far, 21,288 people have been cleared at the post.
Some of them have been fleeing the rainbow nation due to hard COVID-19 Preventive Guidelines that were implemented by the South African government including a lockdown.
