A Blantyre-based up and coming hip-hop artist Peace Dickson, 16, known by his stage name Pesty-C has committed suicide.
Police confirmed about the incident as they rushed to the scene and took Dickson's body to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) where he was pronounced dead.
According to Police Petsy C was reprimanded by his aunt who was his guardian, for theft and was warned that he will be reported to Police if he does not return the items. This did not go well with him as he went into his bedroom and hanged himself using a belt.
Music artist Steve Spesho expressed worry over the death of the young artist on his Facebook page and wrote:
“Sad news, one of the youngest talented artists I have worked with has passed away. May his soul rest in peace.”
Reacting to the news on social media, some of have expressed their shock.
Commenting on a Facebook post Hannah Njikho said: “Mental health is important I don’t even know why mental welfare is not a subject in school.”
Laureen also commented saying: “I don’t know what the kid was passing through but it must have been heavy and too much for his age. This is so sad, mhsrip [may his soul rest in peace].”
Police have since advised the public to desist from opting for suicide as a solution to challenges in life but should seek help and counselling from Victims Support Unit, leaders and elders.
Pesty-C who at the age of 14 had 30 songs including his hit single ‘Hustle’ started his music career in 2013 and has worked with reknown music producers such as Dare Devilz, Ace, Gusto, Runbwoy, and Steve Spesho.
