Vuwa Kaunda out on bail, case adjourned to January 6

Member of Parliament Symon Vuwa Kaunda has been granted bail by the Principal Resident Magistrate Viva Nyimba in Lilongwe.

Kaunda was arrested on Tuesday by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) in relation to land lease by former deputy minister Charles Mchacha.

On Wednesday he was taken to court in and charged with abuse of office and corrupt transaction with a private individual.

Magistrate Nyimba granted the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) member his bail application on condition he produce cash bond of K500,000.

The other condition is he has to report to ACB every fortnight, surrender travel documents and produce a non cash surety of K500,000.

Viva Nyimba has since adjourned the case to 6 January 2021 when they return to court because the State is yet to get consent from Director of Public Prosecutions.

The proceedings will see Symon Vuwa Kaunda take plea of guilty or not guilty when he returns to court.
