Wella Medical scheme enters market, for cash pay back

Malawians will now have a wide range of choices in medical covers following the introduction of a new scheme called Wella Medical Aid Society (WEMAS).

The company owned by Wella Holdings Limited, entered the market in April this year and was officially launched on Tuesday in Zomba.

Speaking during the launch, the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), MacDonald Wella said the scheme is unique since it pays back cash to members after a year.

“We are the only Medical Scheme which pays cash back to you. If you claim less than 50% of the cash allocated to your Medical Savings Plan, you are refunded the remainder on the 50% at the end of the year

"Our goal is to provide the most outstanding and innovative health insurance services in Malawi by complementing what other medical schemes are doing on the market,” disclosed Wella.

According to Wella, currently their customers access services in over 70 service-providers across the country, including Mwaiwathu Private, Blantyre Adventist Hospital, Masm Medi Clinics, Adventist Health Centre (Lilongwe), Lilongwe Private  and City Centre Clinics, Shifa Hospital, Malmed (Blantyre, Ginnery Corner, Zomba) , ABC Community as well as Likuni Mission Hospitals.

WEMAS has Pensioners medical scheme, medical savings plan, gap cover, corporate medical and family medical schemes.

WEMAS treated journalists who covered the launch to an Aerobics session

“The Gap cover is designed for those people who are members of other medical schemes which make them pay shortfalls at the point of service.

"This product pays for the shortfall while their medical scheme pays for the main hospital bill. This ensures that 100% of the medical bill will be covered and the member pays nothing at the point of service. We are also offering the pensioners scheme for those who are 55 years of age and above,” Wella concluded.
