The long-awaited batch of 192,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine is expected in the country this Saturday 24th July. This is the consignment which was said to have failed to arrive on 15th July 2021 due to logistical challenges.
The vaccines will arrive through the Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in Lilongwe at 13:40hrs.
Chief of Health services in the Ministry of Health Dr. Queen Dube assured the public on the arrival of the syringes and other related supplies.
“Immediately following these 192 000 doses, we’re getting even more doses of 119,200 AstraZeneca doses that will be followed by Johnson and Johnson about 300,000 doses, then we’re getting another consignment of AstraZeneca 360,000 doses plus also in this very quarter between now and September we’re also getting at least 372, 000 doses of Pfizer.
“Over the next couple of weeks, it’s gonna be a very very very busy time for us in the Ministry of Health because we’ll be getting more of these vaccines coming in the country, so Malawians shouldn’t panic.”
She stated the Ministry continues to engage the communities on the benefits of the injection and that everyone needs to get involved in promoting the safety and effectiveness of the jab to achieve the expected outcomes.
