New Macra DG Suleman speaks out on appointment

Newly-appointed Director General of Malawi Communication and Regulatory Authority (Macra), Daudi Suleman says he has accepted the appointment.

Suleman, speaking for the first time since the announcement of the appointment on Wednesday evening, said: "Malawians should expect to have a formidable team that will take care of a few issues in the communication sector.

"You are aware the world is going towards digital economy and digital regulation and it is very important that Malawi begins to take the necessary steps to achieve that while at the same time embracing the Malawi 2063 strategies and Malawi digital economy strategy".

Suleman said he was confident in his capabilities based on his education background and extensive work with reputable organisations in digital communication and ICT management.

"I have interfaced with Macra on so many occasions and for so many years and I'm conversant with the roles ad duties which the Authority is poised to do," he said.

Minister of Information, Gospel Kazako made the announcement of Suleman's appointment on Wednesday saying he came out on top after gruelling interviews.

Kazako disclosed there were 11 people who were vying fro the position of the of Macra DG.

Kazako has since backed Suleman's appointment saying the Tonse government is employing people on merit.
