The Southern Region Chess League (SRCL) is scheduled to host the third and final online tournament sponsorsed by Wasoka Chirwa and Godwin Ulaya this Sunday.
Sponsorship for the tournament has so far been used for the two tournaments that saw South Africa-based, Joseph Mwale winning the initial one.
SRCL publicity secretary, Wadza Otomani expressed gratitude to the sponsors, saying they brought some excitement into the game.
Otomani then asked for more sponsorship from well-wishers for them to continue with the tournaments.
“We would like to appeal to individuals and organisations to sponsor our chess tournaments. Sponsoring chess tournaments is not expensive particularly at this time when we are playing chess online.
“We had a sponsorship of only K200,000 from Mr. Wasoka and Dr. Ulaya and we organised three online tournaments. We could organise even more online chess tournaments if we had sufficient funds,” he said.
The third online chess tournament will have the Open and Ladies’ Sections and a time control of 3+0 on www.lichess.org.
Online chess tournaments are organised as a way of observing social distancing and complying with restrictions on public gatherings following the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19).
