The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has rejected Zomba City Council's request to reopen Zomba Stadium next month.
According to FAM's Club Licensing Manager Casper Jangale, a lot more needs to be done before the association can approve the move.
“The pitch has not met the Fifa standards and spectators' stands are not completed for the facility to host a football match,” he said.

Reconstruction of Zomba Stadium started in 2017, denying people of the city and surrounding areas the opportunity to watch Super League matches.
Zomba Stadium is expected to accommodate about 20,0000 spectators and used to be TNM Super League side Red Lions' home ground before it was closed.
