The Malawi Under 20 national football team on Monday morning left the country to Zambia for this year’s Cosafa championship slated for Lusaka between December 4-14.
Malawi will start their group A campaign against Comoros Islands at Nkoloma Stadiumon Wednesday with a new technical panel led by former Flames captain Peter Mponda.
Mponda released the final squad on Friday for the competition.
Speaking before departure through Chileka International Airport in Blantyre, the team’s manager, Aubrey Nankhuni said they are going to bring something home and not just to participate.
“I have been with the team several times to the competition, but what inspires us is the courage and determination in these boys. We maintained most of the players that we took to the competition last year and added just a few so that they can also gain international experience. We have done everything because we had good time in camp polishing up all areas. What remains is to do the work,” Nankhuni said.
He added that they are not underrating Comoros, but they are confident of a winning-start.
“Our plan is to start with a win against Comoros. This will give our players more confidence and also an advantage to us as we play other teams,” he said.
The junior Flames will then face Botswana on Saturday before playing the host on December 9.
