Malawi’s international football star, Gabadinho Mhango says he is more concerned with the team’s win than personal glory.
Mhango is the current league top goal scorer with 14 goals for his South African side Orlando Pirates.
The league resumes this evening with Pirates having a daunting task to face third-place side Mamelodi Sundowns months after the league was suspended due to Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
Mhango was the lone scorer of the first-round match against Sundowns.
The Malawi national team forward told Nation Newspaper that he is looking forward to returning to the field of play.
“It was a long wait, but thank God it is finally coming to an end. I can’t wait for tonight. But I am not losing sleep over that. Actually, I am very relaxed and looking forward to the match. The priority is to help my team win the game other than personal glory. So, yes, I would love to win the Golden Boot Award, but the team always comes first,” he was quoted.
Several football lovers gave Mhango a chance to clinch the top scorer award in the league this year following his scoring spree.
Mhango at some point challenged that he was eyeing Zambia’s former star Collins Mbesuma record of scoring more than 25 goals in the league.
Pirates is fourth in the league with 40 points, eight behind leaders Kaizer Chiefs, while Sundowns has 44 points.
