Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) has become the first to set a date for its elections-March 13 in Mangochi.
The association was supposed to hold the elections in November last year at the same venue, but the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) stopped the polls in all regions following complaints from other people about the irregularities in the nomination process.
The people argued that in some cases, district committees did not nominate the candidates as appeared on the nomination forms.
Last week, ACB released its findings with the same findings and made its determination urging the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to call for fresh nominations and polls.
FAM complied and wrote the regional associations to commence the process which would see them electing new office bearers within 21 days.
SRFA vice general secretary, Kingsley Simbeyi has confirmed setting the date.
“With Guidance from Football Association of Malawi, Southern Region Football Association would like to inform the General Public that it will hold it's Elective Meeting on 13th March 2021 in Mangochi. Nominations will start on 22nd February 2021 at district level and will close on 3rd March 2021,” he said.
According to a communique from FAM, the association will handle the nomination process, against the old system where the regional association members were in-charge of the exercise.
The ACB recommended that FAM should take over the process because the regional committee members are interested parties.
SRFA had all candidates nominated to run unopposed for last year’s elections.
