TNM Super League players in the 2020-2021 season will start reaping the fruits of their hardwork through the weekly, monthly, and 'Man-of-the-Match' awards courtesy of Old Mutual.
The current season has seen no player being rewarded as it was the case in the past due to the unavailability of sponsors for the initiatives.
On Wednesday, Super League of Malawi and Old Mutual sealed a deal that would see the company rewarding the players for the remaining 171 games until the end of the season.
Sulom president, Tiya Somba Banda said the initiative will help encourage the players which is part of their plans to improve the welfare of players and promote competition.
“We are happy with what Old Mutual has pledged to sponsor star players which we have been looking for. It is important to recognise the individual players who shine brighter than others, this helps competition among the players then goes to the teams.
"We are also pleased that Old Mutual has taken the task to support SULOM in encouraging football players to plan for the future. It is more exciting that the football supporters will be involved in voting for player of the week and player of the month,” he said.
Roy Punungwe from Old Mutual Life Assurance Company said apart from the awards, they will be training the players on financial management.
According to the agreement, player of the month will be getting K200,000, player of the week will be pocketing K100,000 and and of the Match will be taking home miniatures.
