About three months after securing the K60 million sponsorship for the netball Cup from FDH Bank, Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) is yet to roll out the competition.
In November, last year, FDH Bank announced a K360 million sponsorship of the Malawi Netball team apart from the netball Cup assistance.
K45 million is meant for the Cup, while K15 million is for administration.
NAM general secretary Carol Bapu told Kulinji.com in an interview that they are yet to meet and map the way forward on how they will run the competition.
“All I can say is that we have not sat down to deliberate on how we will go about with it. All we know is that it will kickoff soon. Once everything is done, we shall let the nation know about it,” Bapu said.
The general secretary further said they have been unable to come up with the calendar of events for this year because they were waiting for updates from other quarters hosting other competitions expected to be incorporated in the calendar.
FDH Bank netball cup is expected to be a relief for teams especially those from the Northern Region who have had no league for some time now.
During the sponsorship signing ceremony in Blantyre, FDH officials committed to supporting netball from grassroots level as they do with football.
The bank’s then-acting managing director, William Mpinganjira said they saw value in netball owing to the Queens' exploits.
The last time teams participated in a national competition was during the GoTV and Airtel Cups some four years ago.
Southern Region has the Rainbow Paints and Boltsalt league, while the Central Region has MPICO league.
