Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) has announced the passing on of its former president Rose Chinunda at Kamuzu Central Hospital on Sunday.
NAM general secretary, Carol Bapu made the announcement through an official Association's Whatsapp group with members of the media.
"On a sad note NAM would like to inform you of passing of our mother Mrs. Rosy Chinunda she has just passed on at Kamuzu Central Hospital. Funeral program is not yet known but we will keep you posted. MHSRIP," she said.
Chinunda was at the helm of the association when it secured netball sponsorships from MPICO league in the Central Region and the failed K600 million deal from RACH Family Trust for a modern state-of-the-art indoor netball court.
The RACH Trust deal was after Airtel Malawi pulled out of sponsorship for the Queens in 2014.
She was appointed into the board of the Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) by president Lazarus Chakwera in September last year.
Coming as a shock to the netball family, the Malawi National Netball team coach, Peace Chawinga Kaluwa reacted: "Zovuta speechless".
