ACB starts Police recruits probe

Martha Chizuma, ACB Director General

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has launched investigations into the alleged falsified recruitment of some constables by the Malawi Police Service in the 2021/2022 cohort.

ACB Director, Martha Chizuma, has written the police that her office wants to obtain information from responsible officers from the Human Resource Section at National Police Headquarters in Lilongwe.

This comes a month after 70 young people were turned back from various police training schools without formal admission for training.

The recruitment was said to have been aided by one Chipiliro Kaliyopa, a man suspected to have duped Malawi Congress Party (MCP) youth league members with a promise to help them join Malawi Police Service.

However, the Malawi Police are yet to arrest Kaliyopa almost two weeks after launching the manhunt.

Last month, the Police appealed to Kaliyopa to hand himself to the law enforcers while urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to report to them.
