Malawi Police Service (MPS) and the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services have jointly arrested 158 foreign nationals who have been living illegally in the Southern African country.
According to an MPS statement the illegal immigrants have been arrested in rural and urban areas across the country where most of them were doing businesses.
Among them,r 84 have been arrested in the Central region, 38 in the North and 36 in the Southern region.
Deputy national police spokesperson Peter Kalaya has said the operation, which is ongoing, aims at ridding of foreign nationals living in Malawi illegally.
However the MPS has made it clear that the operation is not targeting refugees as they have a court injunction.
