Presidential Charity Golf gets K20 million boost from NBM


National Bank of Malawi Plc (NBM) says supporting the Presidential Charity Golf Initiative is their way of contributing to Malawi's vision 2063 enabler of human capital development.

The bank said this when it donated K20 million to the tournament scheduled to take place in 8th October, 2022.

Brian Bobby, Head of Operations at NBM said: "We are cognizant that one of key enablers of Malawi vision 2063 is the development of human capital through provision of education and skills development for the youth."


Bobby mentioned they have been running scholarship programs for needy students for many years.

Among others being the K60 million support to Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) endowment fund so they wean off reliance and dependency on government through diversification.

Boby also mentioned they did their part helping those affected with the Tropical Ana. "We agree the with initiative it resonate well with what we do as a bank to make a difference in the lives of less privileged."

Chimwemwe Chimwaza, committee member of the Presidential Charity Golf Initiative disclosed both Chakwera and Chilima will play all 18 holes to show their commitment.


Chimwaza said they planned on raising K200 million and are close to hitting the target and surpassing it.

He expressed gratitude towards the bank saying it shows the Corporate Social Investment (CSI) is at the core of the bank to it's community.

The initiative is the brain child of President Lazarus Chakwera to raise funds for charity causes affecting vulnerable societies.

Among the causes include supporting needy students at tertiary universities and people affected with Tropical Cyclones in the lowershire.
