Kukoma Diamonds have upheld their unbeaten run in the Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League, by thrashing Vicky sisters 133 baskets to 10 at Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC) on Sunday.
In a one sided match, the defending champions led 46-6 goals going into the second half with a clean slate by goal shooter Alinafe Kamwale who portrayed exceptional shooting tactics embracing every opportunity in the scoring ring and throughout the game.
The Cori group of companies sponsored diamonds played long range shots in the third quarter shutting out the upcoming team, Vicky sisters, who managed to score one basket in the quarter adding up to 7-71 of the marvellous diamonds.
Diamonds who have so far played 8 out of 10 games in the first round of the league is at the top of the leader board with 16 points, while Vicky Sisters with all their games played in the second quarter have finished off with 4 points.
With two games remaining in the first round of the league Diamonds are geared to remain on the summit of the log table.
Assistant coach for Diamonds Noel Mussa commended the team for the win and the rest so far in the first round of the league.
“Small or big team, we played how we were supposed to play, the goal margins matter to us.
“Our focus remains and we shall maintain the same throughout the league,” said Mussa.
Being the first time to battle it out in the league, Vicky Stars head coach, Isaac Chikwakwa admitted of the tough team they were up against.
“We know they are stars and so far unbeaten in the league but we still maintained our momentum which to me was quite impressing,” he said.
Chikwakwa still commended his girls, under 23 of age of their performance since they started playing in the league.
“Gradually things are improving we are learning from each and every game, come the second round we will claim more points, we are at any cost avoiding finishing in the bottom of the table,” he added.
Other games played on the day were First Choice Tigresses who played against two teams and claimed victory in both.
The team slashed Machinjiri sisters with 101-16 and 81-19 against Serenity.
In Zomba, Tropical Queens was up against Prison sisters and finished with 43 baskets to 32. The first round of the league is expected to wind up by 24th August 2019.
